Boards and Commissions

The City of Moraine is served by several Boards and Commissions, each comprised of dedicated Moraine residents who volunteer their time and talents to help improve the quality of their government. Though many citizens are already serving on Boards and Commissions, there are still several vacancies.

Charter Review Board – 9 Members

The Charter Review Boards meets once every five years to review the Charter. The Board will meet in 2023. If you are interested in being a member of the next Charter Review Commission, fill out a form and return to the Clerk of Council.

Planning Commission – 2 Year Term – 5 Members

The Planning Commission works closely with the Planning Department to maintain the Comprehensive Plan for all future growth. The Commission also hears all requests for rezoning. They meet monthly on the third Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The meetings usually last less than an hour.

Board of Zoning Appeals – 2 Year Term – 5 Members

The Board of Zoning Appeals hears appeals for variances from zoning ordinances. They meet monthly on the first Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The meetings usually last less than an hour.

Merit System Commission – 2 Year Term – 5 Members

The Merit System Commission conducts exams for both entry level and promotional positions in the classified (or civil) service (Police, Fire and Street). They meet on an as-needed basis, averaging 7 to 9 meetings per year. The meetings usually last less than one hour.

Board of Parks and Recreation & Tree Board – 2 Year Term – 5 Members

The Board of Parks and Recreation makes programming recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Director. The Board also judges several of our annual holiday contests. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month for an average of two hours. Additional meetings are scheduled as needed.

The Tree Board makes recommend to the City Planner programs dealing with the urban forest of the City to include planting of trees.
